Halloween Fun!

Happy Halloween friends!

Hope everyone had a safe and fun-filled Halloween weekend, filled with mountains of sugary sweets! The last few months have been a whirlwind… but we are finally getting back into the swing of things.. well, sort of…. I have a new kitchen aid! No, not another electric mixer… just an amazing guy that I get to call my husband who has promised to be my lifelong ‘kitchen aid’. He is the best =)

So we tackled our first post-wedding baking project as a married couple! (I’m still getting used to having a kitchen helper and second set of hands!)… more on some of the wedding details in a later post… stay tuned! We got our bake-on here at the house… tray after tray of orange and yellow cookies! Little bro asked if I could make some festive cookies for his Halloween-themed grad fundraiser, so we decided on two different types of cookies: decorated sugar cookies and Reese’s pieces cookies.

In keeping with the Halloween theme, we made decorated pumpkin and ‘BOO’ sugar cookies. To add the texture for the pumpkin cookies I colored some granulated sugar orange and sprinkled it onto the wet icing (ran our of sanding sugar). Love the texture effect that the sugar had created and the green stem just tied it altogether.

How to: Start by piping and flooding the three solid orange panels and then after these panels are dry, flood the remaining two panels and sprinkle the sugar onto the wet icing. Once dry, dust off the excess sugar and you’ll be left with a two-toned, textured pumpkin!

For the ‘BOO’ cookies, pipe and flood a white circle; while the icing is still wet, pipe dots of different colors. Once all of the icing drys, add on the ‘BOO’ detail.

E still needs a little more practice with his piping skills, but is very eager to perfect and master the art of sugar cookie decorating =P haha Now that all of the wedding shenanigans are over, I’m hoping to have more time to do some baking and blogging… hoping but we will see =)

Talk to you all soon!
