Baby bear cookies…

Too cute.

I usually don’t do too many animal cookies, but after these cute bears, I think I may have to try other animals. The baby cutter set that I used was by Wilton – it came with a onesie, bear, carriage, and rocking horse. I find animal cookies to be a little trickier than than regular designs because theres usually more detail, multiple colors, and sequence of steps that need to be taken. It took a little while to think of how to pipe this cookie because I wanted to add some dimension and distinction between the head, body, arms and legs. In order to create this look, I flooded different sections of the bear in a certain sequence, allowed those portions to dry, and then flooded the other sections.

I was honestly a little worried about these cookies at first, but I’m really happy with how they turned out, especially with the distinction between the head, body and limbs. For this design, I also didn’t bother piping an outline border first and then flooding it because I didn’t want that piped outline to show, so I literally just flooded the sections. In terms of the sequence: first, I flooded (#2) both the head and feet in a caramel brown and allowed them to completely dry. Next I flooded the body and ears and allowed them to dry. And very last, flooded the arms.

Once the caramel brown color was completely dry, I added the lighter brown detail color to the face and paws (#2). After the light brown was completely dry, I piped out the eyes, nose and mouth (#1) – since the facial detail is so small, I found it helpful to have a slightly stiffer icing to ensure that the icing would hold it’s shape.

So happy about how all the cookies turned out! Super cute trio and perfect for a baby shower!
