The perfect fun cookie gift…

Equipped with secret messages…

Scrabble cookies are perfect for any fun occasion because they’re so simple, yet so customizable depending on what message you want to include. I made these as a small birthday gift and added some clues on the tag to help them decipher the message… the original message was “Holy crap you’re old!” (haha that might be a little mean, but you can get creative with your message) Plus, after they’ve cracked your message, it’d just be fun to mess the letters up and see how many words you can come up with!

Real scrabble letters have small numbers on the tiles as well, but when I tried to pipe the tiny numbers, the icing started to melt together into an illegible mess. I’m sure if you made the cookie tiles big enough, piping the small numbers wouldn’t be a problem at all. Guess those are the drawbacks of making small bite-sized cookies – I made them about an inch in both the width and height. In terms of decorating, the cookie tiles were first flooded with white (#2) then once completely dry, I added the letter detail using a slightly stiffer black icing (#1).

Since the cookies were so small and all the same size, putting them altogether into a clear cellophane bag was an easy way to present and package the cookies. Plus adding a tag (with clues for a secret message, if you have one) and baker’s twine ties it altogether very nicely and makes a really cute gift.
