Double Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

What’s great about always having an ice cream canister in the freezer is the convenience of making ice cream whenever you want. My ice cream maker came with two freezable canisters and I’ve been alternating them, always keeping one in the freezer at all times.

It was Friday afternoon and we wanted ice cream. The previous batch of Aero Cookie Ice Cream had been fairly popular among the family and disappeared in no time. Sooo… it only made sense to make more ice cream… Double Chocolate Chip to be exact =]

3/4 C granulated sugar
1/3 C unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 C milk
2 C whipping cream
1/2 C chocolate chips
1/4 C Smarties, chopped (optional)

1)  Whisk together sugar and cocoa powder to prevent the cocoa from clumping with the milk. Add enough milk to the chocolate mixture to create a chocolate paste, mix well then add the rest of the milk. Add vanilla and whipping cream; whisk together until well incorporated. Freeze in ice cream maker according to manufacturers instructions. 5 minutes before the ice cream is done, add chips and/or Smarties. Store in air tight container and freeze for a couple of hours before eating.

Chocolate base with chunks of chocolate…. need I say more? Decadently delicious. The Smarties were a random last minute addition since we felt the 1/2 C of chocolate chips wasn’t enough chocolate, but feel free to add whatever you feel like.

Lovely stuff. I unfortunately don’t have one so anytime I make ice cream, I’ve to float around the kitchen for the next five hours or so to keep stirring it

This looks great. I want a ice cream maker so bad, so I can make homemade ice cream.
